Tanzania produces a total of 800 million coconuts a year. These coconuts are used locally and are also exported to Zambia, Burundi, and Comoro. The government plans to incorporate coconut into its oil production strategy, in order to reduce the amount of oil imported into the country. The amount of oil imported in Burundi is about 365 MT. It is estimated that between 15 - 20 coconuts produce around 1 liter of coconut oil.
