In Northern Vietnam, there's been a rise in farming cold water fish like sturgeon and salmon to meet local demand. However, the price of Chinese sturgeon and salmon is much lower than the production cost, causing many challenges for Vietnamese farmers. The locally produced cost for sturgeon and salmon trout stood around USD 8.25 to 9.07 per kilogram (VND 200,000 to 220,000/kg). Meanwhile, the sturgeon and salmon trout import price from China stood around USD 7.42/kg (VND 180,000/kg), reportedly entering the country through unofficial channels, bypassing official importation processes. Vietnamese farmers currently require support from the authorities.
