Corn, beans, and rice are the most important basic grains in Guatemalan wholesale markets. Compared to February 2021, average monthly prices have increased by 15% during February 2022, being white beans and yellow corn the products with higher increases of 25 and 33%. The main reason is that currently, agricultural commodities prices have increased worldwide due to a global pandemic, fertilizers prices, container shortage, and war between Russia and Ukraine. Prices are not expected to decrease during the next few months, and authorities expect prices to maintain stability and stop increasing.
