Due to COVID-19 governmental restrictions on cross-border travels from North Macedonia, Albania, and Bulgaria to Greece, only 30% of the seasonal workers have arrived in Greece. The subsequent shortage of manpower during the harvest season is expected to lead to a significant shortage of peach output, affecting the production/export of all related products (whole fruit, concentrate, pulp, tinned etc). The association of peach producers has called on U.S. peach producers to serve the German market for 2021.
