Despite the long drought which occurred during the flowering and fruiting stages this year, the Brazilian state of Parana concluded the barley harvest season well. They produced 262 thousand tonnes, covering around 63 thousand hectares of land, reaching an average yield of 4,154 kg/ha. In comparison to the previous year, the results were up 7.6%, 4.7% and 2.8% respectively. The previous season was already considered a good harvest for local farmers.

Nevertheless, expectations for this season were raised to the point that a 10% higher yield was initially expected. The new records, plus the good condition of the grains and the rise of 37% on prices during the season offset any frustration caused by the forecasted yield reduction. The Brazilian state of Parana accounts for around 2/3 of the Brazilian production of Barley.
