Exports are circa 35% of the Dominican Republic's commercial trade (imports and exports). Bananas are the most exported agricultural goods in the country, representing 2.5% of the national value in USD of all exports in the country. The most produced variety is cavendish, and there are sustainable farms with Rainforest Alliance and organic certifications. Some of the farms are direct suppliers to key retail players worldwide. Quality, traceability, and grading processes are excellent complying with international standards (Global GAP). There's year-round production and distribution to main ports worldwide. For buyers, Dominican bananas are an alternative to circumvent port delays from key players like Costa Rica. Pricing is comparable or 3 - 4% higher than its main competitor, like Costa Rica.
