The onset of Egyptian Valencia imports to India kicked off pretty strong in January with a wholesale price of USD 21 per 15 kg box. However, the wholesale prices in Vashi Markets, one of the main wholesale markets for imported fruits in India, witnessed falling prices of Egyptian Valencia with every passing week of February. The reason being oversupply resulting in crashed prices and weak demand. In WK8, importers are selling 15kg box of Class 1, 70-100 count Valencia at USD 12 merely, making it difficult to recover even just the costs.
Importers have slowed down placing new orders for Valencia and postponing their weekly arrivals till the first week of March. Indian importers are hopeful to see a gain in Valencia wholesale prices towards mid of March.
