Cumulative to March 2022, the European Union represented 41% of the agricultural exports of Costa Rica (299 million USD), which are constituted by products such as: banana (39%), pineapple (31%), gold coffee (9%), fresh watermelons (6%), melon (4%); among others.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the European Union (EU) is looking to increase the regulations for products under the concept such as “Farm to the table” for them to be aligned as dictated by the EU, increasing the importance of health and environmental standards in imported agri-food products.
It is important for Costa Rican exporters in the agricultural sector to stay updated with the new regulations made in the European Union, for the entry and marketing of agricultural products, in order to anticipate and implement the necessary adjustments, ensuring compliance with the legal requirements requested and avoiding losses in their shipments and the possible closure of this market.
