According to the National Supply Company (CONAB), the barley harvest was expected to reach 0.4 million tonnes this 19/20 season. After revising the figures, it is now expected to close out at 0.37 million tonnes, down 8.4%. The weather was the main cause of the losses, mainly in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, which registered severe drought during grain filling period. Unusual frosts caused relatively less damage to barley than other winter crops, but still contributed somewhat to the reduction of projected yield loss.
