Turkey accounts for 62% of the world's hazelnut production and 72% of its exports. Italy, the country that produces the most hazelnuts after Turkey, experienced a decline in 2021 due to the drought. Traders predicted that Turkey's export figure would increase due to this decrease in Italy, and this prediction became true. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, Turkey's production volume of shelled hazelnuts in 2020 was 665 thousand MT, while that of 2021 was 684 thousand MT. Meanwhile, the production volume of unshelled hazelnuts was 344 thousand 370 MT.
