The first onion dehydration plant in sub-Saharan Africa will be set up in Senegal. This factory is expected to produce about 5,000 tons of dehydrated onions per year, or 2% of world production, part of which will be exported to Europe. Onion production has increased sharply over the past decade in Senegal to around 400,000 tons per year. In order to secure the supply this investment also includes the creation of a 760 hectare farm in parallel with the constitution of a vast network of onion producers. The project is financed the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Investment Fund for Agriculture and Trade in Africa (AATIF).
