In 2020, there were more than 200 containers of garlic got rejected at the Taiwan border when importing, the origins are mostly from Egypt, then it's Spain and Argentina. Some importers believe it's a political issue as a way for the political party to show they are protecting the local garlic grower. The situation has been improved in 2021, there are only a few containers rejected from Egypt, and it's due to quality issues. The importers are cutting back their ordering volume and so does the exporters are trying to ship to Taiwan to avoid the risk of rejection.
