After European countries such as the Netherlands and Germany experienced low tomato production volumes in the 2022/23 winter due to high energy prices, the situation is anticipated to change during the 2023/24 winter season. Producers have successfully renegotiated gas supply contracts for this winter's production, particularly in the Netherlands and Germany. Consequently, normal production quantities are expected. In contrast to the previous year when countries like Spain, Tunisia, and Morocco benefited from this situation, they will now face competition from domestic suppliers in key destination markets (e.g. Netherlands and Germany) for their products in 2023.
