The first harvests of the sesame confitero, known as K2, are being harvested in the field. The final results at the country level are yet to be seen, and each region may present a different result. In the case of the producers in the San Pedro and Concepción area, the results are promising in quality and quantity.

For exporters, the supply system for sesame confitero or K2, in particular, is well marked by two levels, collector and sub-collector. This is because this confitero or K2 sesame is produced by small producers of between 0.5 to a maximum of 10 hectares, and most of them are producers in the range of 2 to 3 hectares. Since the production is very rustic, without machinery and with manual harvesting, this is the reason why it is of higher quality and sweetness.

Thus, having such a large variety of small producers, the sub-collectors gather small quantities to supply the collectors with a larger volume. The collectors supply from both the sub-collectors and directly from the producers. But as soon as the harvest begins, it is not so much a matter of the contract but of arriving on time and arriving with money in hand to collect the seed.

The challenge for the exporter is to accurately project its volume for the year so as not to be left with little or over-stock.
