Exorbitant freight charges that have seen an increase of 500%, which is five times higher than pre-pandemic levels, have led to the rise in the cost of importing food items and the retail prices of the items on the shelf of supermarkets. For instance, charges from the distant port of origins such as China, Europe, the United States, and Japan have increased 6-7 times. It is expected that bottlenecks and the issues concerning this will be resolved, but it is unlikely that there will be a solution shortly.
