As the supply of mackerel is dwindling down in the Central Java region, the commodity's price has gradually been on the rise in the past week. In just seven days, the price of mackerel throughout this region has gone up to IDR 37.000/Kg, a sharp 10% increase from its price in the previous week at IDR 33.000/Kg. The diminishing supply of mackerel was caused by bad weather conditions along the northern coast of Java in Indonesia, adjacent to the mackerel-abundant region. Fishermen have not been able to go to sea for days. As an alternative solution, local consumers have shifted their buying preferences to freshwater fish like tilapia and catfish, which are now sold at IDR 18.000/Kg and IDR 13.000/Kg respectively.
