Import volume of fruit and vegetable is growing in Spain

Until October last year, Spanish imports of fruit and vegetables have increased by 6.3% in volume and 4% in value, totaling 2.9 million MT and EUR 2,674 million, reflecting an increasingly competitive and globalized market, in line with the community market.

Fruit imports in the first ten months of 2021 amounted to 1.7 million MT (+ 10%) for a value of EUR 1.98 billion(+ 4%). The majority of the imported fruits showed strong growth, except orange. Banana is the most imported fruit with 304,738 MT and 18% more than in the same months of 2020, followed by avocado with 194,537 MT, which also recorded strong growth, of 26%. They are followed by apple with 6% more and 151,406 MT, pineapple with 15% more, and 135,408 MT.
