The county government of Muranga in Kenya has partnered with two investors who will buy mangoes from over 5,000 farmers in the county. As a result, farmers could receive better compensation and reduce fruit waste. The two investors collect about 15MT of mangoes from the farmers daily and aim to buy over 8,100MT of mangoes in 2023. The buyers pay between USD 0.04-0.08/mango. The county government estimates that farmers sold over 8400MT to middlemen in 2022 who sourced the fruits directly from the farms.
