During W35, in the Jambi province of Indonesia, areca nut farmers opted to forgo harvesting their plantations. This decision is primarily due to the ongoing decline in the price of areca nuts, driven by reduced exports to India. Indonesian areca nuts face stiff competition from those originating in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Bangladesh, largely because of variations in taxation. Import duties imposed on Indonesian areca nut products in India are exceptionally high, further contributing to unfavorable market conditions.
