Iranian chicken farmers are experiencing difficulties mainly caused by the increasing rising costs of soybean and corn poultry feeds. The country is dependent on imports in main feeds and currently, the production cost of the chicken eggs is around $0,60 per kg while the farmgate price is set at $0,48 per kg.
Chicken farmers need to wait for 10-50 days to receive poultry feeds at subsidized prices and this condition forces the farmers to send their chickens to slaughterhouses or to purchase feeds in the open market which makes the farmers lose money.
Soybean at the current moment is sold at $0,64 per kg while the corn is sold at $0,17 per kg.
The decline in animal feeds between 10-20% in the period of Mar 20th - Oct 21st compared to the same period last year, is one of the major causes for the price gap and difficulties of Iranian chicken farmers.
