In the 2022/23 season, Greek kiwi production officially ranked second globally, after New Zealand. In the 2022/23 season, green kiwi production in Greece was over 350K MT, while yellow kiwi production was at 650MT. Official records show that a total of 196,750MT of kiwis were exported. Till April, 13,793MT were exported to the US compared to 14,804MT in the corresponding period in 2022; to Spain, 28,333MT compared to 26,974MT in 2022; to Italy, 20,298MT compared to 44,218MT; to Canada, 6,725MT compared to 5,271MT; to India 20,049MT against 1,630MT, and in the new market of Israel, 385MT of kiwis were exported. Despite the small-sized fruit this year and the 40% increase in production and refrigeration costs, producers obtained a reasonable income with sales prices varying from USD 0.25/kg for small sizes to USD 0.70/kg for big sizes.

The forecast for 2030 is that Greek kiwi production will increase to 600K MT, which is a huge leap for the sector. As for 2024, packers and growers will invest all their efforts in the newly developed markets in Asia and Latin America, especially Brazil and India, and develop the secondary sector of industrial use of kiwi for processed value added products.
