A recent Canadian industry report suggests there is a shortage of up to 28,000 production workers across this country due to COVID. A combination of worker safety concerns and generous unemployment programs are some of the main causes of the labor shortage. The industry is reluctant to increase wages and analysts fear that increased wages could be felt by consumers through higher retail prices.
