With a shortage of fruit pickers caused by border closures during the pandemic, New Zealand has heavily relied on recognized seasonal employees from the Pacific Islands. According to a supplier, fruits wort of millions of dollars will be potentially wasted if lack of workforce continues. Growers are now paying higher wages in order to obtain the labor needed.
