Poland is in the midst of its 2022/23 apple harvest and is experiencing a shortage in available labour which is negatively impacting the apple sorting and packing process. As of W39, apple growers are focussing on harvesting rather than sorting and packing for exports as there is not enough labour available to do both at the same time. The labour shortage is a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. Ukrainian men had to return home to fight in the war and are not available to harvest, sort and pack apples for the 2022/23 season.
