In W5, the market in Osaka, western Japan, started with 25% less supply of leek than in W4. The strongest cold wave hit Japan in W4 and covered the field of leek with heavy snow. Snow prevented leeks from being harvested in the coastal area of the Sea of Japan, which is one of the main supply areas of leeks to the Osaka market. Leeks were about 10MT at the beginning of W4, but in W5 they started around 5MT. Supply from eastern Japan has been covering this loss of the entire supply to the Osaka market.
