In Portugal, it is normal to find a sticker on each apple with the name of the variety, which allows the employees in the cashier to choose the correct price for each variety when he is weighing the apples. It is difficult to find the difference in types, like between a Starking and a Royal Gala, especially with a queue of consumers waiting.

Since the beginning of 2022, it is becoming more common to find a sticker not with the name of the variety but with the logo of the importer’s name/ brand in other fruits like mangoes and avocados. The sticker doesn’t come from the supplier at the origin, but it is added to the importer's warehouse.

On the same shelf in a supermarket, we can find 2 different stickers, in the same variety of mango, at the same selling price. This might be a strategy of the importer to create some brand awareness of his product, distinguish the product from the competitors, and help the consumer's choice when he is buying the mango because he recognizes the quality.
