Losses in South Africa's tomato industry due to heavy rains

2021 December has been characterized by heavy rains wreaking havoc on essential staple fruit and vegetable harvests. The losses in the Tomato industry have reached an estimated USD 6 million in December 2021. This has caused tomato prices to rise from USD 0.45 to USD 0.78 in just one month. However, volumes are expected to grow and increase more in the upcoming season.
