The detection of six Mexican fruit flies and one larva in San Diego County around the unincorporated area of Valley Center has triggered a 77-square-mile quarantine zone. The quarantine will affect any growers, nurseries, wholesalers, and retailers of host fruit and plants in the area. The Mexican fruit fly can lay its eggs and infest over 50 fruits and vegetables, including citrus and avocados.
