After the last season when apple production in the Republic of Moldova reached a record high level of about 650K/mt, the current one seems to be less promising and there are all the premises that the production will be at least 15% lower.
Low temperatures were installed during the nights of 19 April and 20 April in the northern part of Moldova. This region is known for its extensive areas covered by state-of-art apple orchards, being the main country’s source for exports of fresh apples. As in some orchards the weather stations registered temperatures below 8°C, the inflorescences were damaged and producers are very reserved about getting any harvest from these plots.
