The National Livestock Development Directorate of Mozambique has announced a ban in the movement of livestock such as cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats, as a second outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease had been detected. Therefore, hoofed animals are prohibited to be sent for slaughter in most of the province of Tete and in two districts of Maputo. This not long after the first detection of the disease in the Maputo province during August, which had consequently caused the Ministry of Agriculture to order vaccination of all cattle within a 50 km radius in the region. The Mozambican authorities will increase their inspection of the livestock in transit, involving police and the police unit that protects the natural environment.
