Sesame harvest show negative results in Paraguay

The “confitero” sesame or “escoba,” also known as K2, is cultivated in the eastern region with the highest rainfall. The end of the harvest was expected to be achieved by the end of January at the latest, but the current reality with the droughts has postponed the culmination of the crops.

The panorama is becoming more and more negative; the last report from the supplier is that to date, only 30% of what was expected has been obtained, and they estimate that the losses in production will be between 50% to 60% - which is something very significant.

The farmers usually do 3 types of planting, early, medium and late. This year more than 90% of the production will be from early planting - since they had more rainfall and the other two have been lost almost entirely.
Some of the exporters, who risked more than others in the sesame contracts, are confronting many problems since they compromised loads with prices on an estimate of production. Today, with the new reality, the producers want to raise prices and not respect the contracts. According to the supplier, this year, the “confitero” sesame harvest will be finished only by the middle or end of February.
