10 January 2023 Set as the Harvest Start Date for First Vanilla Season in Uganda

The Ministry of Agriculture in Uganda has set 10 January 2023 as the harvest start date of vanilla for the first season of 2023. The minister of agriculture has strongly warned vanilla farmers and dealers of punitive action against anyone found harvesting vanilla beans before the stipulated date. Vanilla is a highly regulated crop in Uganda due to its high value which attracts theft and threats to the farming community. The average farmgate price of vanilla in Uganda ranges between USD 149-371/kg.
