Nigeria currently boasts of being the largest producer of rice in Africa with an annual production capacity of 8 million metric tons. Nigeria has two rice farming season, in each season four million tons of rice is produced by twelve million farmers engaged in the production of the commodity across the country. Nigeria now eclipses Egypt as Africa's largest producer and is expected to place a total ban on rice importation by the end of 2020.
