Key stakeholders in the Nigerian honey industry have raised concerns over the low focus of the government on the industry, stating that the low domestic output supplemented by imports is due to the use of crude techniques to produce honey and uncontrolled bush burning practices.
Nigeria's honey commands high global demand owing to its organic nature but the industry is still in need of more land, targeted research, extension services, and use of modern production equipment to meet both domestic demand and export.
