Despite concerns over salmon diseases, the spot price of Norwegian farmed salmon increased by USD 0.37 per kilogram (kg) to reach USD 7.04/kg in W39, showing a year-over-year (YoY) gain of USD 1.36/kg. Moreover, the year-to-date average price for Norwegian salmon is now USD 8.74/kg, up from USD 7.75/kg in 2022. Norway, the world's largest Atlantic salmon producer, exported 34,727 metric tons (mt) of salmon in W39, maintaining a level similar to the preceding two weeks but representing a 6.2% YoY decrease. Notably the Norwegian Veterinary Institute reported a surge in pasteurellosis and infectious salmon anemia (ISA) cases at salmon and trout farms in the mid regions of Norway, highlighting the imperative for increased research into fish health to address quality concerns.
