According to Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) sources, 85% of Bangladesh's shrimp exports heads to European countries, while the rest, 15%, goes to America, Japan, and other countries. As a result, if restaurants in Europe close again due to the Omicron, shrimp exports will be reduced accordingly.

Meanwhile, Foreign Exchange Earning from shrimp exports was USD 268.95 million in the last six months, according to the data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), up from USD 194.58 million in the same period of FY 2020-2021. Despite the Omicron news, Bangladeshi shrimp exporters were all grins from July to December as the value of shipments increased by 38.23% compared to the same period of 2021.
