Coronavirus has caused low demand from private consumers and major buyers, such as restaurants, hotels, and social events causing an overproduction of tomato, potato, lettuce, celery, carrot, and cabbage.
In the case of onions, many producers decided to dedicate themselves to planting another product, such as potatoes, since in recent years the constant imports at harvest time reduced their profits.
But now they are in difficulties too because, with the crisis, the consumption of potatoes has decreased.
Additionally, government price control continues to distort the price of potatoes. In this case, it could be lower, but it is being sold at the price set by the Government.
