Costa Rican papaya producers urge the government to attain permission to re-enter the United States as papaya exports are currently not allowed due to the presence of the Mediterranean fly in the country. Papaya producers argue that their crops are not infected as this fly is in the coffee production region, which are located in the mountain areas, while papaya production is located in the lowlands of the Caribbean region.
