In the first half of Jan-24, the average export price of pepper rose to USD 3,953 per metric ton (mt), marking a 3.4% increase compared to the average for entire Dec-23 and a significant 16.6% year-on-year (YoY) rise. Recent days have shown increased momentum, fueled by traders stepping up their purchases. However, limited inventory has led people to retain their goods. Vietnam has commenced a new harvest in early ripening pepper areas, but it is expected that farmers will not engage in a massive sell-off as seen in previous seasons. This reluctance is attributed to the support of rising prices in other agricultural products such as durian and coffee.
