The first nut processing plant in Portugal will be built in the Alentejo, São Manços. According to the information reported by Televisão do Sul TV (TDS), this new plant, whose inauguration is scheduled for next November 13, results from an investment of around 6.2 million euros.

Embracing a 647 hectares area, of which 73% are intended for walnut farm and processing and the remaining 27% should be dedicated for almond. The project just went through the first two phases (still ongoing), the nursery of walnut plants and the agricultural exploration.

The area should not only allow nuts processing production by the plant to be installed alone, but also the production of third parties, which could “strongly encourage the growth of the production of nuts in Portugal”.

Since 2016, private Portuguese capital has been invested in the dried fruit sector and has sought to respond to the increased consumption of these products.
