Portuguese milk producers face, probably, the worst crisis ever

Being a self-sufficient producer in what comes to milk production, Portuguese farmers are getting a noose around their necks tighter every day. The cost of fertilizers, grains, animal food is at a point where this activity is not being profitable or, even in some cases, will start to provoke major losses. The cost of feeding a milk cow is around 60% higher than what it was at the very same period last year. At the same time, the producer keeps on receiving the same price for its product that received, precisely in 2021.

By 2022 Portugal will have to increase milk importations and possibly other dairy products as Portuguese farmers will not have ways of keeping on producing without any external help or a sharp increase in milk prices at the farm gate.
