The 2022 winter in the Western Cape region of South Africa has been warm compared to previous years, especially during the month of July, which was characterized by an average YoY increase of 2 degrees Celsius. Apple and pear producers in the region are concerned that the winter will not achieve the required chill units which could negatively affect the yields for the 2023 harvest season in terms of both yield and color.
