Potato season is officially over in Lebanon with low stocks and mediocre quality. Previously, around this time of year, potatoes were imported from Egypt to keep up with the demand. But now, because of the deteriorating economic situation in Lebanon and capital control laws, it is harder to transfer money outside the country to import. The Lebanese buyers need to have an external or foreign account from which the buyer can transfer money. However, the number of buyers who have such accounts is relatively low. In the upcoming months, the gap between supply and demand will increase the prices even more in the local potato market.
