This week, the market demand for chicken continues to increase except for wings. Small, medium and jumbo boneless breasts are at record-high prices, and the jumbo breast meat market is at its highest point since at least 1989. Ongoing supply pressures continue, due primarily to hatchability and supply chain woes. There will be price increases for jumbo breasts through June, and jumbo tenders through August.
There are still industry-wide continued labor issues, hatchability, high feed cost, and ingredient shortages which are hampering production in further processing facilities. Retail and further processing demand continue to increase, therefore, creating pressure in the food service supply areas.
Buyers can expect continued higher prices and tight supplies of boneless breast meat and tenders in the second quarter, due to low cold storage levels, hatchability, fuel price increases, and supply constraints. The small bird and larger whole bird demand is strong, while supplies are extremely tight, with pricing moving consistently upward and availability being
hampered.
