Cotton producers in Mozambique have received a subsidy for the cotton worth of 240 million meticais. There was a loss recorded in the yield of crops due to lack of rain, however the subsidy was able to mitigate the overall economic loss. The producers were motivated and even created expectation of growth in production in the coming year, as seed distributions have already initiated. Without the subsidy the price of cotton would have been 18-19 meticais ($0.26) per kilo, but will now be selling for 25 meticais ($0.35).
