Kiwi orchards in Western Greece are covered in water while Eastern Greece is assessing the damage from rain and hail caused by the storm that hit both areas on the weekend of W21. The precipitation continues and interferes with kiwi flower pollination, negatively affecting fruit formation. Kiwi orchards are expected to have about 30% less fruit formation than usually with farmers reluctant to perform any thinning before they feel reassured against the potential risk for a smaller sized fruit yield. The measure of the effect will continue to be monitored till mid June when the fruit growth will be evaluated.
