Santa Catarina (South Brazil) has an increase of 56.8% in pork exports in August

Pig farming became the highlight of Santa Catarina's agribusiness in 2020. Since the beginning of the year, Santa Catarina has increased international sales and invoiced with product shipments. In August, the sector maintained its growth and reached revenues of US $ 109.3 million - the second-highest value ever recorded in the historical series, since 1997 - and 56.8% more than in the previous year.

In the last month, the state exported 50,800 tons of pork, an increase of 55% in relation to August 2019. The growth, again, is driven by China, which imported 33 thousand tons of the product in the value of US $ 73.9 million. These figures represent increases of 109.1% and 115.5% in relation to August 2019, respectively.

The largest national pork producer, Santa Catarina has a differentiated health status, which opens the door to the most demanding markets in the world. The state is the only one in the country recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) as an area free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, which shows extreme care for animal health and is something extremely valued by meat importers.

From January to August this year, Santa Catarina has already exported 345,900 tons of pork, an increase of 27.5% over the same period last year. Revenue already exceeds US$ 758.6 million, exceeding by 40% the value of 2019. In addition to China, which has been increasing shipments month by month, other important markets are investing in Santa Catarina production. Japan, for example, became the fourth largest buyer and expanded 166.2% of the volume imported from Santa Catarina this year.
