Not to be affected by the Turkish government's restriction of exporting Turkish-origin chickpeas due to a domestic shortage, big companies transferred some quantities of the Turkish chickpeas to free zones. However, the market is still not settled down for the Turkish origin chickpeas and the most traded item is Russian origin chickpeas.
On November 3, 2021, the EXW-Mersin prices for Russian-origin chickpeas varied between USD 960- USD 980.The average FOB cost in Mersin was USD 600 for one container and one 20'ft container takes 24 MT of chickpeas.
Middle East and Europe usually demand chickpeas from Turkey taking advantage of its geographic location. Hence, Turkish companies are trying to take market share of chickpeas from Canada, USA, Mexico, and Argentina.
