The latest estimate for the South African citrus crop in 2023 is 165.6 million cartons (15kg), an increase of 800,000 cartons compared to 2022. Lemon and mandarin cultivation has experienced significant growth in recent years. Lemon plantings have surged with approximately 8,000 ha of lemon trees under six years old, including 1,750 ha of trees aged four years or younger. In the case of mandarins, there are around 13,500 ha of orchards under six years old, with approximately 7,300 ha being four years old or younger.
