In 2022, China and South Africa adopted new protocols for South African exports which resulted in a total of 7.5K MT of lemons being exported in 2022 compared to 800MT in 2021. The new cold treatment protocols resulted in lemons arriving in the market with good quality. As lemons are sensitive to cold treatment, these new measures bode well for the arrival of high quality fruit, which in general translates to an improved market share of South African lemons in China.
